Skills 4 life
A strategy for improving literacy and numeracy amongst adults aged 16+. ESOL classes are offered for Speakers of Other Languages along with numeracy provision.
UK Online
IT drop in sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. These sessions are open to everyone. Courses include ‘Starting with Computers’ for those with no experience of using a computer, ‘Understanding public services online’ to help you understand how to access government websites and ‘Understanding job hunting online’ to help you look for jobs online, this includes how to sign up for email job alerts and fill in online forms.
An environmental project that helps people with experience of mental distress get involved in local green activities to help improve confidence, self-esteem and physical health. Working in partnership with the SAM Project, Greenways and Family Action the project also provides environmental volunteer opportunities for mental health service users with the support of unemployed young people to improve well-being.
SAM Project
A project that provides volunteer mentor support to 248 mental health service users. The project aims to assist their rehabilitation into the labour market and their communities by using a more holistic approach. Mental Health Service users are one of the most excluded groups in society. The SAM projects seeks to up-skill and integrate the beneficiaries into modern day, information-based society, while at the same time providing supportive social networks and giving a voice to this group. Foundation Learning
Foundation Learning is a project that offers 16-18 year olds the opportunity to gain qualifications at level 1. The course is, on average, 23 weeks long and open for new applications throughout the year. The project supplies Learners with work focused skills in English, Maths and ICT as well as Employability and Media based training.
Access to Nature
A project about connecting people with their local natural environment and, although the project is open to all, it specifically aims to introduce the benefits of the natural world to people who have not had the opportunity or the interest to experience it before. This is done by creating ways for people who have previously not had an interest in the environment, such as using photography, film and other media, and fun leisure activities such as night walks and bug hunts, and providing opportunities for volunteers to access accredited and non-accredited training in both conservation and media subjects. Find Out
This project provides free media based training to families in Ipswich to catalogue their life story through various forms of media, and promote understandings between generations and break down barriers to learning. This is done through; video picture diaries, family calendar, Life story books, film making, radio shows, music production, DJ workshops and comedy DVD. Find Out Project
ACTION
Offers new arrivals to the UK with legal immigration status activities that encourage third country communities to share their cultural heritage with resident communities. The activities include taste of life sessions, media skills training, advice and information, primary skills and experience in ICT, English and job related workshops. The ACTION Project
Life Trax
Free counselling sessions at the CSV Clubhouse offered by volunteers each professionally trained to a nationally recognised diploma standard. Life Trax subscribes to professional codes of ethics and practice.
Russian School
Runs every Sunday and aims to advance the education and training of Russian speaking communities in need, and help people adapt to a new community. The Russian School also helps aid the education of the public in the language, culture and history of Russia.
Anglo-Chinese Cultural Exchange
ACCE organises Chinese drumming sessions and Tai Chi classes as well as a broad range of cultural events aimed at raising awareness of Chinese culture and promoting integration.
Amplifier
Runs on Wednesday evenings and provides a space for young people who are interested in instrument based learning to come along and have a youth jam session. The workshop is run by two musicians and encourages young people to develop their skills in live performances. There are also opportunities for free training in radio production and presenting the Youth Air show on ICR. (open to all young people aged 13 to 21)
Ipswich Youth Steel Band
Ipswich Youth Steel band is a project designed to get young people involved in learning about traditional music from the Caribbean. The Students are all taught to read simplified music score for pans and have a broad repertoire of music ranging from calypso, soca, and popular cultural favourites.
24 Track Digital Recording Studio
Modern production studio with ProTools software. Available to hire at reasonable rate. CD manufacture & printing facility also available.
Ghostness Productions
An Ipswich-based photographic production house embedded within the local community that works with a number of clients in the corporate and third sector.
